Apprenticeships

Of course University is not the only route into broadcast and media. Many people have started out through becoming a runner or taking on some work experience. This gives the individual hands on experience of the kind of roles that may await a graduate. At the same time it gives the employer a very real opportunity to assess the candidate and potentially advance within the company. A number of media companies offer apprenticeship schemes aimed at giving people the opportunity to gain hands on experience over study. The Government backs an apprenticeship scheme which has encouraged a number of media companies to hire apprentices for a variety of roles.
