Important Players To Keep An Eye On - Base Media Cloud

Traditionally, broadcasters have wanted to buy technology, build a system, install it and pay for it. Today, broadcasters are increasingly turning to a new model in which they pay only for the technology and services they use for any given period, which can help to spread costs.

And that means opportunities arise continually.

Many of those opportunities are snapped up by those individuals and businesses who are both sharp enough to spot them before their competitors and have the nous to execute and achieve commercial success.

Here, Frame 25 looks at five such companies: what they’re doing, who they’re doing it with, and why they matter.

Who: BASE Media Cloud

Based: London

What they do:

Established in 2015, BASE Media Cloud provide centralised, pay-as-you-go cloud storage and workflow solutions for production, post-production and distribution, including file transfer and media asset management. End-to-end media workflows in the cloud, essentially.

Their multi-cloud platform works on IBM Cloud Object Storage because, says Ben Foakes, the company’s founder and MD, “it’s very scaleable, cost-effective and really fast to provision”.

They also incorporate multiple media-focused software application into their offering, including IBM Aspera, Signiant Media Shuttle, Telestream Cloud, Iconik (by Cantemo) and Veritone.

“it’s very scaleable, cost-effective and really fast to provision”.

Why they’re important:

Simon Green, CEO of Green Rock, who works with BaseMedia Cloud, says his company benefits from BASE Media Cloud and IBM’s expertise and understanding of the sector as it is today, while also future-proofing Green Rock’s processes. BASE Media Cloud’s set-up enables businesses with modest amounts of on-premise storage infrastructure to operate as global media companies.

Who they work with (selected):

COPA90, LadBible Group, Little Dot Studios, ITV Studios, Formula-E, Green Rock, The FA and many more.

In the news:

BaseMedia Cloud were finalists in three categories at the first Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards, which were held earlier this month.
